Media
Selection Criteria
NICEM
seeks out and collects information about educational media and
nonprint materials designed for use in an educational setting,
whether at a school, college or university, corporate training
facility, library, or home.
NICEM
includes information about media for all age levels, in all curriculum
areas, and in all media types.
NICEM
focuses on media that are of instructional merit, have broad potential
usage, are available to a wide audience, and are of diverse content.
The database does not include erotica, and generally does not
include religious, theatrical, or entertainment media.
NICEM
uses information provided by media producers and distributors,
and abstracts and indexes the information into a computerized
master file, transforming the data into an accessible and useful
form.
Abstracts
created in this process are objective, accurate, and brief, and
respect the content of the original text material.
Indexing
terms are selected from NICEM's proprietary subject code system
which is tied directly to the curriculum taught in schools and
universities.
The
NICEM Production Manager periodically resets priorities for entry
of new materials based on subject areas that need to be expanded.
